Each of us are only one turn away from homelessness. Welcome to #HowIGotHere - the interactive experience that helps you understand homelessness on a personal level. Which path will you take?

How I Got Here is an interactive, social experience that's modeled after choose-your-own-adventure games.

The goal is to inspire empathy and urgency among Millennial and Gen Z populations, so they can join the fight to end homelessness. This project placed first at GirlsintachSF’s annual Hacking for Humanity weekend event and was inspired by and built for the Bay Area Rescue Mission (BARM), a nonprofit that has provided food, clothing, and housing for its guests since 1965.

While the prototype was built with BARM in mind, this interactive experience can be utilized by any nonprofit that wants to spread awareness about homelessness and increase donations for their cause.

Technologies Used: Adobe XD, Procreate, JavaScript, Node.js, Express.js, Handelbars.js, HTML/CSS

My Role: User Research, Wire-framing, High Fidelity Prototypes, and Custom Illustrations

*Note: Since the hackathon’s ending we realized that we have used some incorrect stats about homelessness that were given to us during an interview. We have also since been interviewed by Angela Chan from Hackers International

Other contributors: Kat Kime, Katherine Marshall and Johnnie Wagman
